Joey · User Guide
Joey is designed to stay out of your way. This guide walks you through the main features — from saving your first article to exporting your full library.
Version 1.0.001Saving an article
When you're on a page you want to read later, click the
Joey icon in your browser toolbar. A popup appears showing the article title and URL. Hit Save Article and it's instantly added to your list.
By default, articles are saved in Reader View — Joey extracts the main content and strips away ads, navigation, and other clutter, giving you a clean reading experience. Before saving, you have a few options:
About Reader View and images: how images are preserved in Reader View can vary depending on the site and your browser settings. If the result doesn't look right, delete the article and re-save it with Text only checked instead.
Already saved the article? Click Open Reading List at the bottom of the popup to jump straight to your library.

02Your library
The reading list shows your saved articles as a visual card grid — thumbnail, title, source, tags, and estimated reading time at a glance. The left sidebar lets you switch between My List, Archive, and Favourites.

03Reader & highlights
Click any article to open it in the built-in reader — a clean, distraction-free view that strips away ads, sidebars, and clutter. Select any passage of text to highlight it; a small toolbar lets you pick a colour and optionally attach a note.
All highlights appear in the Annotations panel on the right. Click Jump to on any annotation to scroll straight back to that passage.
Read Aloud works on any saved article and is great for commuting or resting your eyes. It starts reading from the current scroll position and adjusts to your chosen playback speed.

06Search
The search bar in the top-right searches across titles and sources as you type. For more precise results, wrap a phrase in quotes to match it exactly — useful when you remember a specific wording from an article you saved.

07Export & import
Joey's export panel lives at the bottom of the left sidebar. You can export your entire library or individual articles — tags, highlights, and notes are always included. Supported formats are Markdown and JSON.
Individual articles can also be exported from inside the reader using the Export to Markdown and Export to JSON buttons in the top bar.

Back up regularly. Joey stores everything locally in your browser. Use Export all (JSON) frequently and save the file to a cloud service you trust — Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, or any synced folder. This is the only safeguard against data loss if you reset your browser or switch devices.
